Passenger join BCP Council Smart Place Consortium

Passenger are proud to be part of the new Challenge Platform, helping to find and deliver digital solutions to problems faced in the conurbation.

9th Dec 2020

Bournemouth-based technology company Passenger has joined BCP (Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole) Council’s newly created Smart Place Research & Development Consortium. The Consortium will be connected via a Challenge Platform, launching this week, that will bring light to challenges faced by the conurbation in a wide range of areas – from promoting sustainable transport to tackling loneliness.

The Consortium and the Challenge Platform will form an important part of the long term vision for BCP Council as a ‘smart place’, creating digital solutions to improve the lives of residents.

Passenger’s commitment to building technology to power sustainable transport connecting people and their communities aligns it perfectly with BCP Council’s aim to create a sustainable place for people and business.

Passenger CEO, Tom Quay says “As a transport data provider, we are ideally positioned to be agents of change and our data and tools will be key to developing solutions in a number of areas. Focusing on the challenges faced where we live means finding innovative solutions that will have long-term benefit and value. Supporting our local community is hugely important to Passenger and we can’t wait to get started”.

BCP Council’s smart place model aims to provoke collaboration between companies and allow them to work together to develop solutions for a wide range of challenges such as healthcare, the environment and sustainable travel.

“These technological solutions help us to deliver meaningful societal improvements and to support our local economy. The truly Smart Place focuses on what needs to be done to improve the lives of our residents, the vibrancy of our communities and the prospects of our local businesses. That was the case before Covid-19 struck and the case for investment is now even stronger” says Chris Shephard, Director – Development, BCP Council.

“Our vision for the future is for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole to be a Smart Place, and we wouldn’t be able to achieve this without the support of companies like Passenger, so thank you! This is a truly exciting time for the residents and business in our community”.
