In-app verification changing student bus travel
Passenger’s new verifications provide a transformational customer experience, allowing the purchase of restricted tickets entirely through an operator’s app.

Allowing customers on-the-go verification of discounted tickets has long been on the wish list of bus operators across the UK. It reduces operating costs, speeds up boarding times and increases customer engagement.
The machine learning-based system replaces time-consuming ID checks done by drivers or travel centre staff and allows users to upload ID and request verification from any location.
In-app verifications are the latest addition to Passenger’s transport mobile app and website platform, designed specifically for bus operators by the UK’s top rated passenger transport app provider.*
Nottingham City Transport is the UK’s first operator to utilise the new service. The take up from students, over the first few weeks, speaks volumes about its welcome reception and ease of use.
Jacob Collier, University of Nottingham Students’ Union Community Officer said “I am delighted that NCT has responded positively to our requests for student verification to be made simpler, quicker and easier. This will be of great benefit to our students who can now access the cheaper NCT student fare more easily”.
The positive response has led to NCT expanding its student bus ticket coverage to include all routes in Nottingham.
Anthony Carver-Smith, Marketing Manager at NCT, said “The introduction of in-app verification for our under 19 and student tickets is a massive step forward in improving access to these discounted tickets for our customers, who can now verifiy seven days a week and outside the traditional hours of our Travel Centre”.
The service is available to all Passenger’s Premium customers throughout the UK and Ireland. Later this year, verifications will become available as a stand-alone service in apps not powered by Passenger.
Passenger will showcase their products on stand A9 at the Public Health + Sustainable Transport Summit, Bristol on Friday 27 March 2020.
